Director and writer Sonnenborn's universally acclaimed film about Vietnam, told from a very personal viewpoint. Sonnenborn's first husband was killed in the war, and he left her an audio tape of his thoughts and feelings about his experience. Sonnenborn refused to listen to the tape for 20 years, but, though she had moved on and was happily married, she suddenly felt that she had to know as much possible about what he felt while he was in Vietnam. A professional photographer by trade, Sonnenborn decided to film her pilgrimage to Vietnam and ended up with a beautiful and incredibly moving film.
